West Java Economic Census Targets 5.54 Million Business Actors
Subang (ANTARA) - Deputy Chairman of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) Sonny Harry Budiutomo Harmadi announced that the economic census in West Java targets recording a minimum of 5.54 million business actors and approximately 17.7 million families. “The numbers are very large, business actors reach millions, because West Java’s population is indeed quite substantial,” Sonny said following the launch of the 2026 economic census with West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi at Lembur Pakuan Subang on Sunday (21/6).
He stated that to reach such a vast target, BPS is deploying 40,573 officers to conduct door-to-door visits in this year’s economic census. Organic BPS employees are also being deployed to support the economic census activities across Indonesia, including in the regencies and cities of West Java.
According to him, the economic census activities in West Java have received full support from Governor Dedi Mulyadi, including a unique census application exclusive to the province. “This might be the only one in Indonesia. In West Java, there is something called ‘Jabar Eco Tech’ (application). The governor has tasked neighbourhood and community unit heads to perform eco tagging, recording coordinates at business premises,” he said.
He noted that the application will show when officers find a stall within a neighbourhood unit’s area. Additionally, any shop or business registered in Eco Tech will be monitored. This is considered to greatly facilitate BPS’s work. Furthermore, on Sunday, the Governor invited regents, mayors, and stakeholders, including leaders from Bank Indonesia, Apindo, and the Financial Services Authority (OJK), to Lembur Pakuan to sign a commitment ensuring the smooth running of the economic census.
“So, only the mechanisms need to be discussed later, as they also involve financial administration, human resource implementation, and so forth,” he said.
During the economic census, Sonny emphasised that officers must enter homes, as it turns out many businesses are run without displaying signage. This approach also aims to identify digital businesses operated by the community.
West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi stated that the economic census fundamentally assists the government in formulating policies. Therefore, he supports the currently rolled-out economic census activities. Dedi even suggested that West Java conduct an economic census once a year, and that the population census could be held once or twice a year.
