West Jakarta residential building reignited after fire initially extinguished
A three-story house on Jalan Krendang Barat, Krendang, Tambora District, West Jakarta reignited on Friday night after previously being extinguished by firefighters. The building was among 27 houses completely destroyed in a fire on Thursday (28 May) evening. However, the fire affecting dozens of structures had been initially extinguished by firefighters. On Friday night, flames reappeared from the third floor of one building at the site. “The third floor of one building. Yesterday’s firefighting wasn’t fully completed; embers remained beneath the rubble. It’s a three-story house, and only the third floor reignited,” said Syaiful Kahfi, Head of the Operations Section at West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Department (Gulkarmat), when contacted Friday night. Syaiful stated that the fire was successfully extinguished by eight firefighting units. “Eight units with 40 personnel. It’s now out,” Syaiful said. He added that, based on current conditions, there is little chance of the fire reigniting. “It seems safe now, with no risk of reignition. We’re taking measures to ensure that,” Syaiful said. “The affected structures are 27 residential houses,” said Syaiful Kahfi, Head of the Operations Section at West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Department (Gulkarmat), when confirmed in Jakarta on Friday. As a result of the fire, 113 households (KK) comprising 250 people were forced to evacuate after their homes were completely destroyed. Hundreds of residents sought refuge in musala and government-provided tents. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries in the incident.
