West Jakarta Food Task Force Conducts Surprise Inspection at Kebon Jeruk Market: Key Findings
Joint officers conducted a surprise inspection at Pos Pengumben traditional market in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta. The measure was taken to check prices and the availability of 14 staple commodities during Ramadan and ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026.
The inspection was carried out by the joint Food Crime Task Force (Satgas Saber Pangan), comprising the Special Crimes Unit of the West Jakarta Metropolitan Police’s Criminal Investigation Division, Jakarta Metropolitan Police, the local Food Security and Agriculture Sub-department (Sudin KPKP), the Cooperatives and SMEs Sub-department (Sudin PPKUKM), and the state logistics agency Perum Bulog. The operation was led by West Jakarta Metropolitan Police Special Crimes Unit Head AKP Edi Budi Wibowo, accompanied by Economic Sub-unit Head Ipda Muhammad Nico Saputra.
AKP Edi reported that the on-site inspection revealed a number of staple commodities had experienced quite significant price increases, exceeding the government’s maximum retail price (HET) ceiling.
“From the field inspection, the team found several commodities experiencing quite significant price rises, exceeding both the Maximum Retail Price (HET) and the Government Reference Price (HAP),” said AKP Edi Budi Wibowo on Thursday (19 February 2026).
Among the findings, red cayenne chilli was recorded as selling in the range of Rp 80,000 to Rp 120,000 per kilogramme at the retail level, whilst domestic broiler chicken was priced between Rp 45,000 and Rp 50,000 per kilogramme.
Meanwhile, Minyakita subsidised cooking oil was selling at Rp 16,000 to Rp 18,500 per litre. Monitoring results indicated that Minyakita was difficult to find at a number of vendor stalls.
Additionally, other commodities such as shallots, garlic, red curly chilli, eggs, sugar, soybeans, and large red chilli also experienced price increases, with several already exceeding HET and HAP provisions.
“Staple commodities that remain relatively stable and within regulations are medium-grade rice, premium rice, and beef,” he added.
AKP Edi Budi Wibowo emphasised that the operation was a preventive measure to maintain price stability and ensure the availability of staple goods ahead of Ramadan.
“The authorities will continue to conduct routine surveillance to anticipate any hoarding practices or price manipulation that could harm the public,” he continued.
The monitoring activity proceeded in an orderly manner. Also present were AKP I Dewa Gede Ady Sugiharta, AKP Gerhana Evriliansyah, Novy Christine Palit (Head of the West Jakarta KPKP Sub-department), Muklis (Head of Pos Pengumben Market), Fitri Widya (Provincial KPKP Sub-department), Hermansyah (PPKUKM Sub-department), and Arif Pujilaksono from Perum Bulog.
