West Jakarta City Government Builds Parallel Water Channel to Kali Angke, Targeting Completion in 4 Months

This channel must be carried out simultaneously and all at once or in parallel up to the Kali Angke,” said West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainnah to reporters after inspecting flooding in South Kembangan, West Jakarta, on Tuesday (5/5/2026). Iin explained that the channel construction will use funds from various sources. The length of the channel is around 1 kilometre. “So it’s 1050 metres long with a creative financing scheme, so there is support from CSR as well as from the APBD or from the Water Resources Sub-District Office,” she clarified. Iin hopes that the construction of this channel will already be underway and targeted for completion by the end of 2026. Her side has already coordinated with several technical implementation units, including the Water Resources Agency, Road Infrastructure Agency, toll authorities, and PLN. “At the latest by the end of the year, four months. It can be completed in four months,” she added. Iin hopes that the channel will eventually solve flooding problems, especially in Puri Kembangan. However, currently, she said, rainy weather is still an obstacle. “We hope this will not be completed all at once, so this is indeed in process, but rain or overflow water comes back, causing impacts like this,” she stated.
