Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri has called on all segments of society to work together in maintaining security and public order across Jakarta and its surrounding areas. The appeal was made ahead of the holy month of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah.

Inspector General Asep stressed the importance of collective commitment to ensure that all religious observances can proceed peacefully and calmly. He expressed hope that this year’s Ramadan would serve as a moment for genuine social tranquillity.

“I invite all of us to demonstrate together that Ramadan is not merely a time for worship, but also a month when our social harmony is truly present — in our neighbourhoods, on the roads, in the workplace, and in digital spaces,” Inspector General Asep said on Thursday (19 February 2026).

To ensure security readiness, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police had previously held a large-scale security preparedness muster. During the event, the force deployed its full strength, involving at least 10,000 joint personnel along with various community elements.

Those involved ranged from community organisations, trade unions and ride-hailing drivers to students and members of the Saka Bhayangkara Scouts. The deployment aims to create a measured, coordinated and sustained security presence across all vulnerable points in the capital.

Inspector General Asep instructed his ranks and all security partners to heighten vigilance through neighbourhood watch units (Satkamling) and community policing groups (Pokdar Kamtibmas). The measure was taken to prevent potential disturbances such as brawls or inter-community conflicts that frequently arise during the fasting month.

“Activate neighbourhood vigilance. Carry out early prevention against the potential for brawls, conflicts and other public order disturbances,” he said firmly.

Beyond physical security, the two-star general also reminded the public to exercise wisdom in using social media. He urged residents not to be easily provoked by hoax information during the holy month.

“Obey the rules, respect one another, maintain proper conduct in public spaces, and uphold ethics in digital spaces. Filter information before sharing it,” he added.

In closing, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief specifically conveyed his greetings for the fasting month to all Muslims, particularly Jakarta residents.

“Greetings and best wishes for the observance of fasting during the holy month of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah. May we all pass through this Ramadan with full devotion, peace, and blessings for us all. Amen,” Inspector General Asep concluded.
