Weightlifting meet starts today

JAKARTA (JP): Around 488 athletes from Indonesia's 26
provinces will take part in the National Weightlifting and
Bodybuilding Championship, scheduled to start here today and run
until Jan. 16 at Hall B Senayan.

Madek Kasman, deputy training director of the Indonesian
Weightlifting and Bodybuilding Association, told reporters last
week that the championships served as the last qualifying round
for the 14th National Games, slated for September this year.

Defending champion West Java, which has won the championship
three times in a row since 1992, is expected to retain its title.
