Wedding turns into total mess

JAKARTA (JP): A wedding ceremony in East Jakarta dissolved into disarray when the parents of the bride where informed that a mayoralty wrecking crew had arrived at their nearby home.

As their daughter prepared to walk down the aisle, her family was forced to juggle greeting guests with pleading with the officers to spare their home.

Still wearing traditional clothes, they argued with the officers over the legitimacy of the demolition order, but to no avail.

The bride (identified only as Elly), who was very upset over the incident, was furious over the absence of any earlier notification. "Why should this happen on my wedding day?" she asked.

The Pos Kota daily reported yesterday that the demolition was executed under the orders of the mayor following the family's refusal to leave the house despite a number of requests. (hhr)
