Weather forecasts for Central Java on 14-15 March 2026, predicted to be the peak period of homecoming traffic during Eid celebrations, indicate the public should be alert to extreme weather conditions such as heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds and lightning strikes.

Although weather conditions in Central Java are forecast to be reasonably good until mid-morning on 14-15 March 2026, the peak homecoming period during the first wave, expected to occur on Saturday (14/3) and Sunday (15/3), will see several districts in Central Java potentially battered by heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds and lightning strikes, according to the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

“Several districts in Central Java are on extreme weather alert status for 14-15 March 2026, coinciding with the peak homecoming traffic during the first wave,” said Yoga Sembodo, Head of the BMKG Ahmad Yani Meteorological Station in Semarang, on Friday (13/3).

The districts in Central Java on extreme weather alert during these two days will significantly disrupt residents’ activities, particularly for travellers returning to their hometowns, so the public is urged to be cautious and careful, especially when in mountainous areas, highlands and river basin areas.

The districts on alert status are:

  1. Saturday (14/3): Banyumas, Purbalingga, Banjarnegara, Wonosobo, Temanggung, Pekalongan Regency and Batang.

  2. Sunday (15/3): Cilacap, Banyumas, Purbalingga, Banjarnegara, Kebumen, Wonosobo, Magelang Regency, Boyolali, Klaten, Kendal, Temanggung, Batang, Pekalongan Regency, Pemalang, Tegal Regency and Brebes.

The Head of Public Relations at the Central Java Regional Police, Kombes Artanto, previously revealed that the peak homecoming traffic during this year’s Eid is expected to occur in two waves: 14-15 March 2026 and 18-19 March 2026, with the police having mapped homecoming and return traffic management across four metropolitan areas: Banyumas, Wonosobo, Klaten and Semarang.

In addition, to secure homecoming traffic during Eid, the Central Java Regional Police have deployed a total of 28,980 personnel, consisting of 22,680 National Police personnel from the Central Java Regional Police Headquarters and subordinate district police offices, as well as 6,300 joint personnel from various relevant agencies and departments.

“They will also be stationed at 219 security posts distributed throughout Central Java,” he added.
