Water supply for Halim area
JAKARTA (JP): The Air Force, in cooperation with city-owned water company PDAM Jaya, supplied 20 tons of water free of charge to residents of Halim Perdanakusuma subdistrict in East Jakarta yesterday.
The water, sent in five tankers, was symbolically handed over by Marshal Mulyanto, commander of the Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, to local residents, who have been short of water since September.
Mulyanto said the Air Force and PDAM Jaya distributed the water to Jakarta residents who were facing water shortages due to the prolonged dry season.
"The water assistance coincided with the commemoration of the 52nd anniversary of the Armed Forces on Oct. 5," Mulyanto said.
Halim Perdanakusuma subdistrict chief Pardji told reporters that the water was distributed to four neighborhoods of the subdistrict.
A PDAM Jaya official Godman Ambarita said the water company had so far cooperated with the Jakarta Military Command, the Navy and City Police to supply water to areas hardest hit by the drought.
He said under the cooperation 918 tons of water had been distributed to at least seven areas throughout the city.
Godman said PDAM Jaya, which has a water production capacity of 15,175 liters per second, was ready to meet all water demands in the city. (05)
