Bali’s Waste-to-Energy (PSEL) facility is said to be just one step away from entering its construction phase. The government is targeting the groundbreaking ceremony to be held in June 2026.

Balinese Governor Wayan Koster stated that various preparations for the PSEL facility on land owned by Pelindo in Denpasar have been completed, including land availability, road access, and public consultation.

“We in Bali are working as one team—governor, municipal mayors, and regents—the land has been prepared, road access is in place, and public consultation has been conducted. The community has essentially approved it, so now it is simply a matter of moving forward,” Koster said in an official statement on Thursday (12 March 2026).

According to Koster, the project is eagerly anticipated by Bali’s residents because waste management continues to be a public concern, as daily waste volumes increase.

He added that the regional government is now awaiting clarity on the project’s work timeline and construction processes to ensure the PSEL can operate effectively.

“We are ready to support whatever is needed for this project to run smoothly. The waste management issue is greatly anticipated by Bali’s residents, so we are pushing for its acceleration,” Koster said.

Nani Hendiarti, Deputy for Food Affordability and Security at the Coordinating Ministry for Food, affirmed that the central government is committed to overseeing the acceleration of the PSEL construction in Bali. Coordination is also being conducted with Danantara and Chinese investor Zhejiang Weiming Environment Protection, which is carrying out the project.

The PSEL development in Bali is included in the first batch of projects to be discussed in a limited meeting at the central government.

“We request support from the regional government to promptly complete the Cooperation Agreement between the Regional Government and BUPP Danantara, including a commitment to the volume of waste to be processed daily,” Nani said.

Nani added that the government is targeting the PSEL groundbreaking in Bali to take place at the end of June 2026. Additionally, the government is overseeing the closure of the Suwung landfill and ensuring waste management continues during the transition period.
