Waste Sorting: Jakarta Provincial Government Urged to Provide Waste Processing Machines at the Village Level
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Member of Commission D of the Jakarta City Council, Ali Lubis, has urged the Jakarta Provincial Government to provide waste processing machines based on waste-to-energy technology in each village to support the waste sorting program in Jakarta.
According to Ali, the waste sorting program initiated by the Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, will be effective if supported by adequate waste management facilities and systems.
“The waste sorting program will be effective and successful if there is full support from the Jakarta Provincial Government. For example, by providing waste processing machines that can be used directly at the village level, waste-to-energy machines,” said Ali when contacted by Kompas.com, Friday (15/5/2026).
Moreover, the waste problem in Jakarta is currently in an emergency category.
Therefore, Jakarta needs a more effective and efficient waste management system because the volume of waste continues to increase every day.
“The waste problem in Jakarta is currently an emergency. Therefore, to overcome it, an effective and efficient waste management system is needed,” said Ali.
Ali believes that the waste sorting program needs to be supported comprehensively, starting from households, hotels, markets, restaurants, to other business areas.
In addition, he asked the Jakarta Provincial Government to strengthen the existence of waste banks in each neighbourhood unit by providing supporting facilities, such as shredding machines and other waste processing equipment.
“The waste collection system must be adequate. So that the waste collected is no longer mixed, but adjusted to its type,” said Ali.
For information, Pramono previously issued a Governor’s Instruction (Ingub) Number 5 of 2026 concerning the Movement for Sorting and Processing Waste from the Source.
Through this regulation, residents are encouraged to sort waste from their homes into several types, such as organic, inorganic, B3, and residue, to reduce the burden of waste in Jakarta.
