The operations of the Sarimukti Landfill (TPA) in Cipatat, West Bandung Regency (KBB), West Java, will be open 24 hours on the day before Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah. This policy has been implemented to accommodate the waste expected to increase during the takbiran night ahead.

The waste accommodated at the Sarimukti TPA comes from the Bandung Raya region, which includes the City of Cimahi, the City of Bandung, Bandung Regency, and West Bandung Regency. Waste from these user areas is likely to experience an increase.

“So, on the day before Eid, it will be open 24 hours because our friends from the regencies and cities often conduct opsih (night cleanliness operations during takbiran),” said the Head of the UPTD for Waste Management at the Regional TPA/TPST of the West Java Provincial Environment Office, Arief Perdana, when contacted on Tuesday (17/3/2026).

The facility will then close operations on the day of Eid al-Fitr to give workers the opportunity to visit their families. Operations will reopen on the day after Eid at 08:00 WIB, with services returning to normal on the second day after Eid.

Arief stated that the volume of waste sent to the Sarimukti TPA has experienced a slight increase this Ramadan month, despite restrictions in accordance with Circular Letter (SE) from the Secretary of the West Java Provincial Government No. 6174/PBLS.04/DLH regarding Warnings and Restrictions on Waste Disposal to the Regional TPPAS Sarimukti.

In that SE, the City of Bandung is allocated a maximum of 13,738 tonnes every two weeks. Then, the City of Cimahi a maximum of 1,668 tonnes every two weeks, West Bandung Regency 1,668 tonnes every two weeks, and Bandung Regency a maximum of 3,925 tonnes every two weeks.

“There is an increase, it has gone up. We limit it to 1,500, our friends can manage until the weekly quota is used up on Saturday, now it’s increasing faster. The increase is 200 tonnes, from 1,500 to 1,600-1,700 tonnes per day,” Arief explained.

Amid the rising waste disposal, the managers of the Sarimukti TPA face several challenges. Such as the slippery condition of the base in the TPA Sarimukti area due to rain. The managers have levelled it using crushed stone and concrete blocks to facilitate the mobilisation of waste transport trucks.

Additionally, access roads in the expansion zone are cut off, causing the disposal activity, which was previously one-way, to become two-way. Previously, the entry and exit access for waste transport trucks were separate.

However, due to the disrupted route, the disposal flow has become two-way. The weighbridge was also temporarily affected by flooding. These challenges have impacted waste disposal activities, causing long queues of waste transport trucks in the Sarimukti TPA area.
