Waskita Karya and the Ministry of Public Works Successfully Complete Dozens of Temporary Shelters
Waskita Karya and the Ministry of Public Works have successfully completed the construction of dozens of temporary shelters in Langkahan District, North Aceh. The five blocks of housing, built on an area of 3,643 square meters, can accommodate up to 300 people.
Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo visited the site, accompanied by Waskita Karya’s Director of Operations II, Paulus Budi Kartiko. He inspected the shelters and ensured that they were ready for occupancy before Eid.
Dody said that the five blocks of shelters, which can accommodate 60 families, are now occupied. The remaining blocks are expected to be completed before Eid so that the affected residents can move in as soon as possible.
“So that once we finish building, the community can immediately move in,” he said in a written statement on Thursday (February 26, 2026).
In addition, Dody praised Waskita Karya’s work in building the shelters. He said that the company had succeeded in creating a cool and comfortable atmosphere inside the shelters.
“The facilities are up to standard, and it is more comfortable inside than outside. It is hot outside, but inside, it is cool and not stuffy,” he said.
Waskita Karya’s Corporate Secretary, Ermy Puspa Yunita, explained that the temporary shelters were built using a modular system with a lightweight steel structure, making the construction process fast and efficient while still prioritizing quality and comfort.
Each unit is designed with insulated panels to withstand hot weather and is equipped with ventilation, exhaust fans, and fans to maintain good air circulation.
“The construction of the temporary shelters is a manifestation of the company’s commitment to providing temporary housing that meets standards and maintains quality. The presence of these shelters also supports the restoration of basic services for affected residents,” said Ermy.
She said that each block of shelters is equipped with sanitation facilities such as toilets, bathrooms, and disabled toilets. There is also a waste disposal area to ensure that the surrounding environment is always clean and well-maintained.
“For Waskita Karya, the comfort of the residents in the shelters is a top priority. We hope that these shelters, which were built together with the Ministry of Public Works, can be a place for families to reunite and resume their normal activities,” said Ermy.
To meet the needs of the residents, a communal kitchen has also been prepared in the North Aceh shelters. The access roads have been built with a width of six meters.
“Building temporary shelters for Waskita Karya is not just about providing housing, but also about creating new hope for the community. We will continue to be part of the efforts to restore disaster-affected areas for the affected communities,” she said.
One of the residents of North Aceh, Wani Safrianti, said that she has been living in the shelters and has been cooking and taking care of her children.
“Now it is comfortable to live in the shelters. It is no longer hot. Living here is more comfortable than living in the evacuation tents,” she said.
In the near future, Waskita and the Ministry of Public Works will hand over more shelters in North Aceh 2, Bener Meriah, and Subulussalam. Previously, the company, together with Danantara, had handed over 96 shelters in North Aceh, and in January 2026, 600 shelters were handed over to the Aceh Tamiang Regency government.
