WALHI Sultra and Morosi Residents Demand Justice over Environmental Pollution by PT OSS and PT VDNI
KONAWE — The Unaaha District Court conducted an on-site inspection today in connection with environmental lawsuit number 28/Pdt.Sus-LH/2024/PN Unh. The lawsuit was filed by WALHI Southeast Sulawesi together with affected residents against PT Obsidian Stainless Steel (OSS) and PT Virtue Dragon Nickel Industry (VDNI) over environmental damage in Morosi, Konawe, Southeast Sulawesi.
The direct inspection of the location covered areas including damaged fish ponds and pollution sites. WALHI Sultra Director Andi Rahman stated that the on-site inspection proved the tangible impact of industrial activities on residents, including economic losses and health problems caused by pollution. Residents also conveyed their complaints directly to the panel of judges.
The lawsuit is based on environmental damage, violations of health rights, and economic losses. WALHI Sultra hopes the case will set an important precedent for environmental law enforcement in Southeast Sulawesi and halt industrialisation that disregards public safety.
