JAKARTA (JP): Industrial growth in West Java slowed to 9.4 percent last year from 12.3 percent in 1993 due to the relocation of some manufacturing plants from the province to other countries, an official said.
A deputy governor of West Java, Ukman Sutaryan, told the provincial council in a hearing in Bandung on Friday that a number of companies have relocated their plants from the province to China, Thailand and Taiwan.
Ukman did not specify the exact number of the companies which have relocated their industrial activities, or their reasons.
He said that the growth decline was also caused by the fact that most of the industrial plants operating in the province have been operating at full capacity, Antara reported.
The government is practically curbing the growth of the establishment of new industrial plants in the province by banning the construction of new ones in Tangerang and allowing their development only within industrial estates in its other towns. (rid)
