W. Jakarta office project starts

JAKARTA (JP): Governor Surjadi Soedirdja broke ground yesterday for the new West Jakarta mayoralty building project in Kembangan Selatan subdistrict.

The 10-story building, designed to have a total width of 18,500 square meters, is scheduled to be completed in March 1997.

The new office building will stand on a 5.5-hectare plot, where the mayoralty office complex will be constructed. The construction of the whole office complex is scheduled to be finished in 2000.

Surjadi said that the new mayoralty office complex will replace the old one on Jl. S. Parman, West Jakarta. "The existing office is not appropriate anymore."

Kembangan, he said, is the best location for the new office complex because the City Administration has designated the area as the center of development in the western part of Jakarta.

M. Pasaribu, the head of the City Arrangement and Renovation Office, said that the new office building will cost more than Rp 32 billion (about US$14.06 million).

PT Jaya Konstruksi MP is in charge of the project.

Surjadi hoped that the new office would inspire and encourage the mayoralty officials to improve services to the public.

He reiterated that the City Administration must provide the public with the best services. (32)
