JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Amid the legal proceedings over the acid attack he suffered, Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras), has voiced a vote of no confidence in the military judiciary. The case involving Andrie implicates four TNI soldiers who have been designated as suspects. “I object and express a vote of no confidence if law enforcement is conducted through the military court,” Andrie stated firmly. That statement is contained in a letter dated 3 April 2026, which Kompas.com has confirmed with Kontras. In his letter, Andrie emphasised that the revelation of this case must be thorough, without regard to the perpetrators’ backgrounds. According to him, the state has an obligation to ensure justice while preventing the recurrence of similar acts of violence. “The most important thing for me is that whoever the perpetrators are, whether civilians or indicated to involve military personnel, they must be tried through the general court,” Andrie said. According to him, the military court has often been criticised for potentially perpetuating impunity, especially in cases of human rights violations (HAM). In addition, Andrie revealed that Kontras, together with a civil society coalition, is filing a material examination against Law Number 34 of 2004 on the TNI and its revision in Law Number 3 of 2025 to the Constitutional Court. That lawsuit aims to limit the expansion of the military’s role in civilian domains. In response to this, the Head of the Military Prosecutor’s Office II-07 Jakarta, Colonel Chk Andri Wijaya, stated that every citizen has the right to hold views on institutions, including the TNI. “We cannot prohibit a citizen from liking or disliking the TNI institution; it is the public or the people who will judge it,” Andri said when contacted by Kompas.com on Sunday (12/4/2026).
