Jakarta (ANTARA) – Volvo Cars Indonesia has informed affected customers to have their vehicles repaired following a global recall of more than 40,000 Volvo EX30 electric SUVs in February–March 2026 due to battery issues. The recall was issued because of a production defect in the battery cell module that could cause the high-voltage battery to overheat and potentially ignite. When contacted in Jakarta on Thursday night (5 March), Volvo Cars Indonesia General Manager Haryanto Djayaputra said that the recall in Indonesia affected vehicles produced in 2024. ‘(The affected units) do not account for a quarter of those in Indonesia; the population (EX30 in Indonesia) currently stands at around 85 units, the units affected are those from the initial batch, 2024,’ he said. ‘We have started preparing to call customers to have them repaired; parts are being prepared by Volvo, and hopefully it will be possible in the near future,’ Haryanto said. The recall of the EX30 covers the Volvo EX30 Single Motor Extended Range and the Volvo EX30 Twin Motor Performance variants. Corporate Planning Assistant Manager Volvo Cars Indonesia Ilham Suryo Aldianto said the company is investigating the root cause of the battery issue in the model. ‘Safety is always our concern; Volvo is monitoring the situation, and some of those in Indonesia have already had the issue addressed. So it is ongoing, and continually monitored,’ Ilham said. Volvo is a Swedish brand now owned by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group of China.
