Visiting Nur Ainia's Home, Coordinating Minister for Human Development Delivers BPJS Employment Benefits
Nur Ainia was an employee of Kompas TV who became one of the fatalities in the train collision incident involving the Electric Trainset (KRL) and the Argo Bromo Anggrek train that occurred last Monday.
Coordinating Minister Muhaimin conveyed deep condolences for the tragedy and emphasised that the state is present through BPJS Ketenagakerjaan to ensure protection for workers and their families.
“We are grieving. In truth, no amount can compensate for their loss. The presence of the state here is a manifestation that we are grieving and that the state will not abandon the families left behind,” said Muhaimin in a written statement on Thursday (30/4/2026).
He stressed that this heartbreaking incident, which killed 16 people, must serve as a collective reflection that every worker is a valuable human being who bears risks on their journey to earn a living. Therefore, social security protection is a non-negotiable state effort.
Muhaimin also appreciated companies like Kompas TV that have registered their employees as participants and emphasised that this is a moral obligation, not just administration.
“I urge all companies: let us continue to strengthen the role of social protection together with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan as a commitment from the government and all parties. Do not let the families left behind in grief face double burdens due to the absence of insurance. Protect our workers, because they are not just assets, but humans with families waiting for them to return home,” he asserted.
In line with that, BPJS Ketenagakerjaan President Director Saiful Hidayat revealed that following the incident, his side immediately moved quickly to identify participants who were victims and ensure they all receive optimal handling.
“We provide proactive services without waiting for reports. At the time of the incident, we immediately went to the location, identified all participants. Including Ms Nur Ainia, and with assistance from Kompas and the Bekasi Regency government, we carried out a one-day service so that the benefits can be disbursed in no more than 2x24 hours,” said Saiful.
His side emphasised that Work Accident Insurance not only covers accidents while working, but also while commuting to or from work.
Based on verification results, it was found that the late Nur Ainia had been actively registered as a BPJS Ketenagakerjaan participant since 2015. Thus, the heirs are entitled to receive Work Accident Insurance (JKK) death benefits, Old Age Security (JHT), and Pension Insurance (JP) with a total of Rp 340 million.
“No matter how large the benefits we provide, they certainly cannot replace the presence of the deceased in the midst of the family. However, this is a manifestation of the state being present to protect and improve the welfare of workers and their families when risks occur, so that the families left behind can continue their lives decently,” he added.
Saiful also appreciated the Bekasi Regency Government, Kompas TV, and all parties that have supported the acceleration of the service process, so that benefits can be handed over quickly and accurately to the heirs.
Overall, in this incident, 34 active BPJS Ketenagakerjaan participants were recorded as victims, with details of 9 people deceased and 25 others currently receiving treatment at the Centre for Work Accident Services (PLKK).
“For participants who are hospitalised, we provide total services until recovery according to medical indications. And during treatment, if the individual is temporarily unable to work, we will pay their salary according to the wages registered when becoming a BPJS Ketenagakerjaan participant. This is proof that we provide protection and services proactively, comprehensively, quickly, and easily,” he explained.
Saiful emphasised the importance of employment social security protection for all workers. Where the protection provided is from commuting to work until the worker returns home.
“We are committed to following up on the Coordinating Minister’s directives to be proactive through proactive and compliant services. On the other hand, we will also collaborate with federations and labour unions to conduct socialisation and education regarding the importance of employment social security protection while encouraging workers and employers to comply with registration in BPJS Ketenagakerjaan so that protection can be felt tangibly when risks occur,” he concluded.
