A video of a Suzuki Grand Max driver brandishing a knife during a confrontation with a ride-hailing taxi driver on Jalan Arteri Pondok Indah, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, has gone viral. Police have stepped in to handle the case.

The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at Kebayoran Lama Police Station, AKP Ivo Amel, said both parties had already been summoned and had reached an amicable settlement. However, a video clip subsequently surfaced, causing the incident to go viral.

“Today, we summoned both parties again to ask how this could have gone viral, given that they had already settled the matter beforehand. The process is still ongoing,” said AKP Ivo Amel to journalists in Jakarta on Friday (20 February 2026).

Ivo explained that, according to the victim’s account, the incident began when the Grand Max abruptly changed lanes and sideswiped his vehicle, nearly causing an accident.

The victim then pursued the perpetrator until both pulled over and became embroiled in a verbal altercation. The perpetrator was then seen pulling out a knife and pointing it at the victim, scratching the car’s windscreen in the process.

The confrontation was broken up by security personnel. The victim subsequently visited Kebayoran Lama Police Station but did not file a formal report, as he had already reached a settlement with the perpetrator.

Both parties agreed to resolve the matter amicably, with the perpetrator providing compensation for the damage to the victim’s vehicle.

“The amount wasn’t specified, but it was to cover the scratches — there were scratches,” he said.

Police will also be tracing the person who first uploaded the video. The case remains under further clarification.

“Yes, we will also look into who uploaded it. Because there is actually also a video of the peace agreement, filmed at the police station,” he said.
