SOUTH TANGERANG, KOMPAS.com – A car driver was caught red-handed by residents while dumping rubbish indiscriminately along Jalan Ki Hajar Dewantara in Ciputat, South Tangerang City, in the early hours of Wednesday (1/4/2026). The incident went viral on social media and drew public attention.

The event occurred around 00.41 WIB and was uploaded by the Instagram account @SeputarTangsel. In the circulating video, residents immediately confronted the driver who was caught dumping rubbish at the location.

“Why are you dumping rubbish here? Why dump rubbish here?” said one resident in the video.

“Pick up the rubbish again. How can you dump rubbish here, sir? There’s a sign that says it’s prohibited,” said the resident while pointing to the prohibition sign against dumping rubbish.

In the video, residents also asked about the origin of the rubbish. The driver admitted that the dumped rubbish came from Pasar Cimanggis.

“Where is this rubbish from?” asked the resident.

“From Pasar Cimanggis,” replied the driver.

“From Pasar Cimanggis but dumped here? Pick it up again,” said the resident.

The driver then picked up the rubbish again and put it back into his Toyota Agya car. Residents also briefly asked for the identification card (KTP) of the rubbish owner.

In response to the incident, Ciputat Ward Head Iwan Pristiasya said that the practice of illegal dumping in the area often occurs. He stated that the perpetrators generally come from outside the Ciputat area.

“That’s the problem; those who dump are mostly from far away and dump in our place,” said Iwan Pristiasya when contacted on Wednesday (1/4/2026).

According to Iwan, the perpetrators often claim it’s their first time doing so. However, similar cases have been repeated even though prohibition warnings have been posted.

To anticipate this, the ward office has asked local RT and RW administrators to increase surveillance in the surrounding environment.

Iwan also hopes that enforcement of rubbish management regulations can be carried out strictly to create a deterrent effect for violators.

The sanctions for perpetrators of indiscriminate rubbish dumping are regulated in Article 50A of South Tangerang City Regional Regulation No. 13 of 2019 on Waste Management.

In that regulation, perpetrators face a maximum prison sentence of three months or a maximum fine of Rp50 million.
