Viral: Man Assaults Taxi Driver in Tangsel, Police Intervene

A video showing alleged assault against an online taxi driver on Jalan Raya Puspitek, Setu District, South Tangerang City (Tangsel), has gone viral on social media.

In the circulating video, the victim appears to be handcuffed whilst a man perpetrates violence against him. The victim is even seen being thrown onto the road by the perpetrator.

The incident reportedly began with a collision between two vehicles at the location. The situation escalated when a man claiming to be a law enforcement officer approached the online taxi driver and allegedly committed the assault.

The video was uploaded to Instagram account @daschamindonesia, among others, and garnered various reactions from netizens.

Wira Graha Setiawan, Chief of Criminal Investigation at South Tangerang Police, confirmed that his unit is investigating the incident.

“Yes, it is true. We will investigate the incident and personnel have been directed to the location to conduct an inspection,” said Wira on Monday (2 March).

He urged the public not to be provoked by information circulating on social media before official police investigation results are released.

“We will conduct further investigation. We ask the public to remain calm and await examination results,” he said.
