Violating Residence Permits, Chinese and Thai Nationals Detained by South Jakarta Immigration
Jakarta - Two foreign nationals (WNA) were detained by South Jakarta Immigration (Jaksel) after being found to have abused their residence permits. Both individuals are a Chinese national (ZS) and a Thai national (KS). In a release received by detikcom on Sunday (15 February 2026), the enforcement operation was conducted at a nightclub in Kuningan, Jaksel, in the early hours of Sunday (15 February). Both were working at the nightclub. “Based on evidence and initial examination, ZS was found to be engaging in activities as a disc jockey (DJ) using a Visa on Arrival (VoA), while KS was acting as a dancer using the Visa Exemption Facility (BVK),” stated South Jakarta Immigration. In addition to the residence permit violations as regulated under Article 122(a) of Law Number 6 of 2011 on Immigration, officers also discovered on-site evidence that the location is suspected to be a gathering point for an inappropriate community. The Head of the South Jakarta Immigration Office, Bogie Kurniawan, emphasised that this finding is a special concern for relevant agencies. “We are not only focusing on immigration document violations, but also have a moral and legal responsibility to protect the South Jakarta area from activities that could potentially damage the social and cultural norms of the Indonesian nation,” said Bogie. Based on this finding, South Jakarta Immigration is taking strategic steps in the form of administrative immigration actions. Both WNAs are currently secured at the South Jakarta Immigration Office to undergo in-depth examination (BAP) and face potential sanctions including deportation and blacklisting. “The state is present to ensure that every foreigner in Indonesia must respect the applicable laws, including the values of decency upheld by our society. We will not provide space for practices that contradict the laws,” said Bogie. South Jakarta Immigration urges the public to continue actively reporting the presence and activities of suspicious foreigners through official complaint channels to maintain security and public order together.
