Vietnam's minister arrives in Manila

MANILA (Reuter): Vietnamese Defense Minister Doan Khue arrived
in Manila yesterday for a five-day visit expected to focus on the
disputed Spratlys islands.

Vietnam and the Philippines are among six nations that have
staked a claim to all or part of the potentially rich string of
Spratly islands and reefs in the South China Sea.

The others are China, Taiwan, Malaysia and Brunei.

Khue is due to meet Philippine Defense Secretary Renato De
Villa today.
