Vietnam welcomes Albright visit
HANOI (AFP): Vietnam welcomed a visit by American Secretary of State Madeleine Albright due to take place in late June, a foreign ministry spokesman said yesterday.
Vietnam hoped "this event will spur Vietnam-U.S. relations to continue to develop", the spokesman said, adding that presently the two sides were having meetings to discuss the agenda for the visit which is due to be in the last days of June.
Albright said Thursday she planned to pay a visit to Vietnam and Cambodia next month en route to Hong Kong. No specific dates were given for the trip.
Albright will make the stopovers before attending the June 30 ceremony marking the return of Chinese sovereignty over Hong Kong.
