Video: Profits from Mangrove Rehabilitation: Residents and Entrepreneurs Can Benefit
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Director of Coasts and Small Islands (P3K) at the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), Ahmad Aris, notes that approximately 2,112 hectares of mangrove land have been successfully rehabilitated throughout 2020-2025. This mangrove rehabilitation not only restores the ecosystem but also drives the coastal community’s economy. Ahmad Aris cites the successful mangrove rehabilitation on Lusi Island in Sidoarjo, formed from Sidoarjo mud, which involved community participation. Currently, the mangroves on Lusi Island are flourishing and have been developed as a tourist destination, thereby stimulating the local economy through the provision of transport, accommodation, and cuisine for tourists. On the other hand, the government is encouraging the utilisation of mangrove rehabilitation to increase the value of blue carbon potential as financing for marine conservation towards energy transition. To this end, the government is preparing three aspects: land, methodology, and permitting systems.
