Video: Payment Gateways and the "Challenges" of QRIS Transactions in ASEAN-China
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - By 30 April 2026, Bank Indonesia will expand cross-border payment transaction services using QRIS (Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard) to China, after previously operating in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Vietnam, Laos, Brunei Darussalam, Japan, and South Korea.
AFTECH’s Ethics Council member Alison Jap assures that payment gateway services support improvements in the quality, smoothness, and security of cross-border QRIS services.
As a service that processes digital payment transactions connecting buyers and merchants, the payment gateway plays a significant role in helping businesses accept consumer payments from both domestic and international sources. In cross-border transactions, it relates to infrastructure to meet the needs of international transactions.
It is hoped that the QRIS cross-border initiative will continue to grow, despite challenges related to transaction costs and exchange rate fluctuation risks, as well as maintaining the trust of businesses and consumers.
