Video: Not Just SMEs, Plastic Price Surge Hits Medical Devices-Construction
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The rise in global crude oil prices, which serves as the raw material for plastic production, has caused related industries to bear a surge in production costs.
Secretary General of INAPLAS (Indonesian Association of Olefin, Aromatic, and Plastic Industries), Fajar Budino, stated that the price of plastic raw materials, previously around USD 1,000 per metric tonne, has risen to USD 1,800 per metric tonne. This will impact industries that rely on plastic, such as food and beverage packaging producers, automotive, construction, electronics, medical devices, and household products.
Facing this situation, industries are compelled to innovate in managing the use of plastic raw materials whose prices are currently soaring. Business actors also hope for government support to maintain the resilience of the upstream and downstream industries through tax incentives and regulatory facilitations.
