Video: Molinas Launched, Government Explains Operational Framework

The national motorcycle industry has welcomed the National Electric Motorcycle (MOLINAS) programme, inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto, which is expected to provide a significant boost to the development of the local electric motorcycle business.

However, the certainty of rules, regulations, and the implementation mechanisms of the Molinas programme remains a challenge for entrepreneurs seeking to drive the progress of the national electric motorcycle industry.

The Acting Deputy for Coordination of Industry, Labour & Tourism at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Dida Gardera, stated that the Indonesian government is highly committed to developing the electric motorcycle industry and its ecosystem as an effort to stimulate the economy while simultaneously reducing Indonesia’s carbon emissions.

Two major steps are required to build the Molinas ecosystem, involving both the formation of the ecosystem itself and its integration with the national electric car programme. Currently, the government is finalising Molinas regulations to provide certainty for both the industry and users.

The government is encouraging the production of Molinas motorcycles with a minimum Domestic Component Level (TKDN) of 40%, which is set to increase to 60% by 2027. Furthermore, the government will incentivise the construction of Molinas factories to complete the national electric motorcycle ecosystem.
