Video: Local Producers Call for Strengthening SNI Regulations Amid Onslaught of Imported Steel
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The surge in commodity prices amid the turmoil of the Middle East war and Russia versus Ukraine has become a sentiment influencing the steel industry in Indonesia. Vice President of Tatalogam Group, Stephanus Koeswandi, stated that as a producer of steel-based building materials such as metal roofing and light steel, the group notes that the rise in commodity prices due to global volatility has also increased steel raw material costs. By 2026, the steel industry hopes that supplies of imported steel, such as from China, can be controlled to prevent them from killing local producers. This can be achieved through government efforts to establish Indonesian National Standards (SNI) for imported products circulating in Indonesia. Facing this situation, Tatalogam is focusing on strengthening its production capacity from 250,000 tonnes to 500,000 tonnes per year to reach a larger market.
