Video: Leveraging Prabowo-US Agreement, Indonesia Could Obtain Oil and Gas Technology
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Indonesian Government has agreed to purchase energy products including crude oil, fuel, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from the United States valued at USD 15 billion, or approximately IDR 253 trillion annually, as part of the Indonesia-US trade agreement contained in the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART), titled “Toward a New Golden Age for the US-Indonesia Alliance.”
Satya Widya Yudha, a member of the National Energy Council (DEN), views this agreement as part of the development of Indonesia-US trade relations. The energy purchases from the US represent a shift in sourcing from Middle Eastern suppliers rather than an increase in overall energy imports.
Furthermore, this cooperation could also attract investment and technology transfer from the US to develop and enhance Indonesia’s oil and gas production, including natural gas. This is expected to present an opportunity for Indonesia to increase natural gas production and accelerate the energy transition, thereby reducing liquefied petroleum gas imports.
