The Ministry of Environment and Forestry/Environmental Control Agency (KLH/BPLH) is promoting the ASRI (Safe, Healthy, Clean, and Beautiful) Movement in Indonesia as a joint effort to tackle waste problems and preserve the environment. Indonesia’s Environment Minister, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, stated that the ASRI Movement was directly initiated by President Prabowo and is expected to resolve various environmental issues, including waste management, through collaboration across all societal levels, including the corporate sector. Currently, waste sources average 50% from households, with the rest from corporations and public spaces. Household waste will be handled by local governments/cities, while area/corporate waste must be managed independently, accounting for 40% of the total. The KLH is encouraging independent waste management by corporations, hotels, restaurants, and cafes (Horeka), with administrative sanctions for violators. In Jakarta, the KLH has sanctioned 500 business units, and in Bali, 400 units for breaching these regulations. The government targets completing waste management by 2029.
