Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — Based on the RI-US trade agreement in the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) or the ‘Toward a New Golden Age for the US-Indonesia Alliance’ Trade Agreement, the Indonesian Government has agreed to import energy including crude oil, LPG, and refined fuels from the United States worth USD 15 billion annually.
It is hoped that Indonesia’s energy imports from the US could attract upstream oil and gas technology transfer, which could be used to boost oil and gas production to strengthen energy security while also driving the energy transition.
Member of the National Energy Council (DEN), Satya Widya Yudha, said that the effort to leverage RI-US cooperation could bring technology transfer including low-carbon technologies that can be used to reduce the costs of CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) and CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage).
In addition, Indonesia could help promote the development of nuclear power plants (NPPs) from the US to China, Japan, and Russia as part of trade and technology transfer cooperation.
