Video: AAJI Focuses on Meeting Three OJK Regulations to Improve the “Perception” of Insurance

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - CNBC Indonesia held the Insurance Forum with the theme “Optimizing Insurance Protection & New Directions for the Development of Unit-Linked Products in Indonesia” as a forum for regulators, associations, and insurance professionals to seek solutions in driving growth and accelerating the transformation of the national insurance business.

Strengthening governance, risk management, and enhancing consumer protection were mentioned by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Association of Indonesian Life Insurance Companies (AAJI), Albertus Wiroyo, at the Insurance Forum as one of the key areas of improvement in the insurance industry throughout 2025.

These improvement efforts have increased customer trust, as reflected in a 13% increase in the number of policyholders to 150 million. However, this number only includes 20 million individual policyholders, so further improvement is needed.

In addition, AAJI noted an increase in regular premiums, indicating retail customers who need insurance protection. In the future, life insurance will continue to promote insurance literacy and inclusion to improve insurance protection services, although increasing public trust regarding insurance claims remains a challenge, as there is still a perception that “insurance companies are quick to collect premiums but difficult to disburse claims.”

To address these challenges, AAJI is promoting improvement through increased sales transparency, improved competence of sales staff, and innovation of products that are simpler and more tailored to customer needs.

In 2026, AAJI will encourage the industry to adapt to three new regulations related to POJK 35/2025 concerning risk-based supervision, POJK 36/2025 on strengthening the health insurance ecosystem, and the implementation of regulations on minimum capital and the spin-off of sharia business units of insurance companies.

What are the efforts to encourage the performance of life insurance?
