Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Throughout 2025, Indonesia’s insurance industry recorded a total increase in life insurance policyholders by 8.6% to 168.03 million people, while life insurance claims and benefits paid decreased by 7.8%, and the value of surrender claims (policy redemptions) for life insurance fell 19% to Rp62.72 trillion.

Executive Director of the Indonesian Life Insurance Association (AAJI), Emira E. Oepangat, stated that the decline in surrender claim values reflects public awareness that life and health insurance serves as long-term protection, which is very encouraging for the industry.

Meanwhile, the continuously rising health insurance claim ratio is caused by increases in drug prices, medical equipment, and enhanced health insurance benefits. Therefore, to address this situation, efforts can be made to control controllable components, such as suspected fraud like falsifying medical data, unnecessary procedures, or patient substitution.

What is the review of the performance and strategy to drive the growth of Indonesia’s insurance business? What is also AAJI’s response regarding the 600 cases of mis-selling in unit link insurance? For more details, watch the discussion with AAJI Executive Director Emira E. Oepangat in Power Lunch, CNBC Indonesia (Friday, 10/04/2026).
