Jakarta (ANTARA) - Vice President (Wapres) Gibran Rakabuming Raka has promised to find solutions to improve the welfare of honorary teachers and contract teachers (PPPK) who teach at SD Inpres Kaniti, Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The promise was directly conveyed by Gibran to the teachers during his visit to SD Inpres Kaniti, which was recently renovated by the government. “(For) the teachers, I know there are still many shortcomings now, but we are continuously trying to find solutions, especially for PPPK and honorary teachers,” said Vice President Gibran to the teachers of SD Inpres Kaniti, Kupang, NTT, on Monday (6/4) as quoted from the official broadcast of the Vice Presidential Secretariat, confirmed in Jakarta on Tuesday. On the same occasion, Gibran also emphasised that the government is currently ensuring that no teachers are affected through coordination with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Finance, and local government. According to the Vice President, regardless of their employment status, the teachers have the same goal of educating children, including those attending SD Inpres Kaniti. In his meeting with Vice President Gibran, the Principal of SD Inpres Kaniti, Yuliana Nenabu, expressed her appreciation to the government for improving the school, noting that previously the teaching and learning facilities were in poor condition. Yuliana also expressed her hope that no educators at SD Inpres Kaniti would be laid off. “We would like to convey our complaint, if possible (PPPK teachers) should not be laid off, because there are 10 people here. If 10 people are laid off, education at SD Inpres Kaniti will be severely disrupted,” said the Principal to Vice President Gibran. SD Inpres Kaniti is one of the schools renovated by the government in 2025 as a follow-up to the directive from President Prabowo Subianto. The school revitalisation took place over 90 working days from 1 October 2025 to 29 December 2025. The school renovation included the construction and repair of 11 old classrooms, three new classrooms, one administrative room, one teacher residence, and one toilet unit. After inspecting the renovation results of the school building, Gibran also took time during his visit to motivate the students to study more enthusiastically. “Now the classrooms are good, built well. Children, younger siblings must be enthusiastic about learning. Don’t scribble on the walls,” said Vice President Gibran to the students accompanied by their teachers. SD Inpres Kaniti currently has a total of 420 students, divided into 16 study groups, supported by 25 teachers and two educational staff.
