Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka performed Eid al-Fitr prayers at Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta on Friday morning (21/3/2026). Gibran arrived at the location around 06:47 WIB, accompanied by his son, Jan Ethes Srinarendra.

Gibran was seen wearing cream-coloured attire paired with a black peci, while Jan Ethes wore matching clothing. The two then took their places in the prayer rows alongside other congregants.

On this occasion, Gibran was observed sitting in the same row as the Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasruddin Umar. In addition to the Vice President, several high-ranking state officials also attended the Eid prayers at Istiqlal Mosque. Among them were MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani, Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency Nusron Wahid, Minister of Culture Fadli Zon, and Chairman of Commission VIII of the DPR Marwan Dasopang.

Also present were the Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Correctional Services Yusril Ihza Mahendra, Bawaslu Chairman Rahmat Bagja, and DPD Chairman Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin. Other officials in attendance included Minister of National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas Rachmat Pambudy and Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni.

The imam for the Eid prayers was KH Ahmad Husni Ismail. In his sermon, he urged Muslims to give thanks for the blessings bestowed by Allah SWT, allowing them to celebrate Eid al-Fitr after observing the fast throughout the month of Ramadan.

“On this bright morning, we can prostrate and proclaim the takbir, celebrating Eid al-Fitr, the day of victory, the day of return to purity after completing a full month of fasting,” he said on Saturday (21/3/2026).

He emphasised that the proclaimed takbir, tasbih, and tahmid are not mere vocal recitations but reflections of gratitude for successfully fulfilling Ramadan’s obligations. According to him, fasting serves as a means of spiritual education to shape individuals who are pious, of integrity, and socially conscious.

The sermon also stressed that the essence of fasting is to build inner awareness of the presence of Allah SWT, which encourages the faithful to obey His commands and avoid His prohibitions in everyday life.

“This is the essence of taqwa, the primary goal of fasting, by feeling the presence of Allah in every step of our lives, our integrity and accountability,” he said.
