Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has expressed support for the enactment of a Tax Consultant Law. This was communicated during an audience with the Indonesian Tax Consultant Association (IKPI) at the Vice President’s office on Friday, 27 February. The support was conveyed in a meeting with IKPI Chairman Vaudy Starworld and the Central Board of Management.

During the audience, IKPI emphasised the urgent need for a legal framework at the level of national legislation to clarify the position, responsibilities, and professional standards of tax consultants in Indonesia. Vice President Gibran assessed that strengthening professional regulation would have a positive impact on the quality of taxpayer compliance and the national tax system.

“The tax consultant profession plays a strategic role in supporting a healthy tax system. Strengthening regulation will provide legal certainty and enhance professionalism,” said the Vice President during the forum.

IKPI Chairman Vaudy Starworld welcomed the Vice President’s support for this initiative. He emphasised that the enactment of the Tax Consultant Law is not merely for the benefit of the organisation, but rather for the interests of the national tax system as a whole.

“The time has come for the tax consultant profession to have strong and comprehensive legal protection. This law is important to ensure standards of competence, codes of conduct, and professional oversight mechanisms operate more systematically,” Vaudy stated.

According to him, clear regulation will strengthen the position of tax consultants as strategic partners to the government in enhancing voluntary compliance. With clear standards and accountable oversight, the quality of support provided to taxpayers will improve.

Vaudy also emphasised that tax consultants have a moral responsibility to contribute to protecting state revenue. The organisation is working to ensure it can make genuine contributions to improving compliance and optimising tax revenue collection.

“With strong regulatory support, this role will be even more effective,” he added.

During the meeting, IKPI also presented the importance of strengthening tax literacy and sustainable collaboration between the government and professional organisations. Vaudy expressed that IKPI is ready to engage actively in various education and support programmes for taxpayers. The audience represents a strategic step in advancing institutional reform for the tax consultant profession.

With the support of the Vice President and IKPI’s commitment, the initiative for forming a Tax Consultant Law is expected to soon enter into further discussion on the agenda, as part of strengthening the foundation of Indonesia’s modern, fair, and integrated tax system.
