The police raid on a house being rented by alleged terror mastermind Azahari in Batu, Malang, East Java, has been a financial boon for residents and food vendors.
Since the story of the raid broke on Wednesday night, thousands of people have flocked to the area to get a glimpse of what is the most exciting event to happen in the town in its history.
The huge crowds have prompted residents to set up stands selling food and beverages, and for other residents to offer transportation service.
By Thursday morning dozens of vendors, parking attendants and motorcycle taxi drivers had gathered near the raided house, ready to sell their services to police officers, journalists and bystanders.
"The raid is a blessing in disguise," said Soleh, a resident who has turned part of his land into a parking lot, where he charges motorcycles Rp 1,000 for the privilege of parking.
Yanto, a long-time food vendor in the area, said Thursday was proving to be one of his most profitable days ever.
