JAKARTA — The Chief Executive of PT Evercoss Technology Indonesia, Imam Sujati, stated that Chromebook laptop prices sold by his company have plummeted to as low as Rp1.2 million.

Imam made this statement while being examined as a witness in the continued hearing of the alleged corruption case regarding Chromebook laptop procurement for defendant Nadiem Makarim, former Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology.

“Currently, if I check here (on the marketplace), the price for this specification is just Rp1.2 million,” said one of the State Prosecutors (JPU) during the hearing at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Monday (9 March 2026).

Imam acknowledged that the Chromebook prices sold by his company have declined substantially compared with the procurement period in 2021.

“Well, electronics prices drop year after year,” he added.

Imam acknowledged that his company currently incurs losses in selling Chromebooks.

“Yes, that’s correct. We are indeed losing money completely,” Imam said again.

According to the indictment, PT Evercoss Technology Indonesia (Evercoss) obtained a profit of Rp341,060,432.39.

In this case, former Minister Nadiem Makarim and three other defendants are alleged to have caused state financial losses worth Rp2.1 trillion.

Nadiem is accused of enriching himself to the value of Rp809 billion.

Nadiem is alleged to have abused his authority such that Google became the sole provider of ICT procurement, including laptops, in Indonesia’s technology ecosystem.

This was carried out by directing procurement studies towards a single product — Chrome-based devices, which are Google products.

Nadiem allegedly undertook this conduct together with three other defendants: former Technology Consultant at the Ministry of Education, Ibrahim Arief; Director of Secondary School Administration at the Ministry of Education from 2020–2021 and Budget User Authority (KPA), Mulyatsyah; and Director of Primary School Administration at the Ministry of Education from 2020–2021 and Budget User Authority (KPA), Sri Wahyuningsih.

For their actions, Nadiem and the other defendants face charges under Article 2 Paragraph (1) and Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of Law No. 31 of 1999 as amended and supplemented by Law No. 20 of 2001 regarding amendments to Law No. 31 of 1999 on the Eradication of Corruption Offences in conjunction with Article 55 Paragraph (1) Clause 1 of the Criminal Code.
