Vehicle Smuggling Syndicate to Timor Leste Dismantled
Semarang (ANTARA) - Central Java Regional Police have dismantled an alleged syndicate smuggling illegal motor vehicles from Indonesia to Timor Leste. “This practice has been ongoing since January 2025,” said Director of Special Criminal Investigation of Central Java Police, Senior Commissioner Pol. Djoko Julianto, in Semarang on Wednesday. He stated that the bust began with the prevention of shipping two container trucks containing dozens of motorcycles and cars without documents on 15 April 2026. In further development, officers seized more than a dozen motorcycles and two trucks from a warehouse in Wonosari, Klaten Regency, which were suspected to be smuggled to Timor Leste. In the bust, a total of 46 motorcycles, four cars, and two trucks without official documents were seized, intended for shipment to Timor Leste. “The suspect AT is the financier as well as the liaison with buyers in Timor Leste,” he said. He explained that the perpetrators obtained the motor vehicles from various sources and then created fictitious documents for shipment. The illegal vehicles were sold for Rp13 million to Rp15 million per motorcycle unit, Rp140 million to Rp150 million per car unit, and Rp210 million to Rp220 million per truck unit. He revealed that the syndicate had smuggled a total of 1,674 motorcycles, 34 cars, and 19 trucks to Timor Leste. For their actions, the suspects are charged under Article 592 or 591 of the new Criminal Code regarding receiving stolen goods and Law Number 42 of 1999 on Fiduciary Security.
