Use THR for Stock Investments: Tips for Beginners

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Idul Fitri bonus (THR) is no longer just spent on Lebaran needs. Some members of the public are starting to utilise these funds as initial capital for investments, including in the stock market. Amid rising financial literacy, the pattern of managing THR is gradually changing. The additional money, which was previously spent on consumption, is now being allocated to grow. Chief Marketing Officer of PT Indo Premier Sekuritas (IPOT), Sergio Ticoalu, stated that THR can be a momentum for the public to start investing. “THR is an opportunity to start allocating money more strategically, not just spending it,” he said, quoted on Thursday (19/3/2026). However, he reminded that investments should not be done haphazardly. Many beginner investors are still caught up in trends or follow others without understanding the risks. “The important thing is to have conviction and understanding of the chosen instrument, not just following the crowd,” said Sergio. Before investing, the public is still asked to prioritise primary needs and emergency funds. After that, the remaining THR can be allocated to investment instruments such as stocks or mutual funds. For beginners, stock investments are considered increasingly easy to access through digital applications. The required capital is also relatively affordable, so one does not have to wait to have large funds.
