US Will Not Impede Access for Ships Other Than to Iran
Tokyo (ANTARA) - The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has stated that the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz will exclude ships transiting to or from ports of countries other than Iran.
The US military announced on Sunday (12/4) that it would begin blockading all Iranian ports after marathon peace negotiations between Washington and Tehran failed to reach an agreement.
The statement was issued by CENTCOM a few hours after US President Donald Trump declared that his country’s navy had initiated the process of closing the Strait of Hormuz.
According to CENTCOM, the blockade will prevent all ships from entering and exiting Iranian ports and coastal areas starting Monday at 10.00 Washington time.
During negotiations in Islamabad, Pakistan, on Sunday (12/4), US Vice President J.D. Vance stated that his side had brought a simple proposal described as the final and best offer for Iran. Vance conveyed this in a brief press conference in Islamabad after nearly 21 hours of talks, without detailing the proposal’s contents.
Last week, the United States and Iran had agreed to a two-week ceasefire in their war, which has lasted more than a month. The two sides were unable to narrow their differences regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz waterway and other key sticking points.
Around 20 percent of global oil supplies pass through this maritime corridor in normal times and it is vital for the transportation of liquefied natural gas, fertiliser, and other resources.
