US Vice President Says Negotiations with Iran Fail to Reach Agreement!
US Vice President JD Vance stated that discussions with Iran failed to reach an agreement, and he will return home after submitting a “final and best” offer. Vance signalled that he is still giving Iran time to consider the offer from the United States, which on Tuesday announced it would temporarily halt joint attacks with Israel for two weeks while awaiting negotiation results. “We are returning from here with a very simple proposal, a deal that is our final and best offer. We will see if the Iranian side accepts it,” Vance told reporters after 21 hours of talks in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, according to AFP on Sunday (12/4/2026). Vance said the core of the dispute lies in nuclear weapons. Iran insists that it is not pursuing an atomic bomb, while the United States and Israel have bombed sensitive Iranian sites both in the war launched on 28 February and last year. “The facts are simple: we need to see a firm commitment that they will not pursue nuclear weapons and will not pursue the means that would allow them to quickly develop nuclear weapons,” Vance said. “The question is simple: will we see a fundamental commitment from the Iranian side not to develop nuclear weapons - not just now, not just for the next two years, but in the long term?”We have not seen that. We hope we will see it.” In a brief statement at a luxury hotel in Islamabad, where both sides held meetings, Vance did not mention any disagreements on other key issues, namely the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow waterway through which one-fifth of the world’s oil supply passes. He emphasised that President Donald Trump - who last Saturday in Washington said he does not care whether the two sides reach an agreement - has been accommodating in the talks. “I think we were quite flexible. We were quite accommodating. The President told us, ‘You must come here in good faith and try your best to reach an agreement.’”We did that, and unfortunately, we did not make progress.”
