U.S. team treats 190 in Myanmar
YANGON (DPA): A team of five surgeons from Stanford University
Medical Center in the United States have treated 242 ear, nose
and throat patients at Myanmar hospitals this month, news reports
said yesterday.
The team gave checkups to 190 patients at five government
hospitals in Yangon, Mandalay and Pyinoolwin and operated on 52
people during the surgeons' stay in Myanmar from Sept. 14 to
Sept. 17, the New Light of Myanmar newspaper said.
The surgeons from the California-based university hospital
also gave lectures on advanced treatment of ear, nose and throat
diseases to their Myanmar counterparts.
Although the U.S. government banned private investment in
Myanmar last April, there is no prohibition against private
humanitarian aid. Myanmar's military regime has become
increasingly receptive to such help.
