US Survey: Most Americans Say Living Costs Worst Ever, Trump Supporters Split
Majority of Americans remain dissatisfied with President Donald Trump’s economic performance. A recent survey indicates many voters believe their financial situation has worsened since Trump returned to office, with the conflict with Iran exacerbating living costs.
A poll conducted by Public First for POLITICO found over 60% of respondents believe the Iran conflict has driven up prices for essentials such as fuel, groceries, and airfare.
The findings present further challenges for Trump ahead of the midterm elections. Despite relatively strong economic indicators, public perception of the economy has not significantly improved.
Most respondents also reported their personal finances have deteriorated since Trump returned to office. Even 18% of Trump supporters in the 2024 presidential election admitted to financial setbacks, as reported earlier.
Trump Still Faces Criticism
Republican efforts to blame former President Joe Biden for current economic conditions appear to have failed to shift public opinion.
The survey shows nearly half of Americans hold Trump fully or largely responsible for today’s economic situation, while only 28% still blame Biden.
Kevin Madden, a Republican communications strategist, said the Trump administration faces challenges similar to those encountered by Biden’s government during rising inflation.
According to Madden, the public directly feels price pressures, making it difficult to accept narratives that downplay the impact of rising living costs.
