US states it is more than capable of restarting war with Iran
US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that the United States has sufficient weapons stockpiles and is ‘more than capable’ of continuing a war with Iran. He made the remarks at the Asia Defence Summit held in Singapore on Saturday (30 May). ‘Our ability to restart if necessary is that we are more than capable; our stockpiles are more than sufficient for it, both in the region and globally as we maintain excellent and ample ammunition supplies,’ Hegseth said, according to AFP on 30 May 2026. Previously, US President Donald Trump said he was finalising his decision regarding a war with Iran. Trump would decide whether to reach a peace agreement with Iran or not. ‘I will meet now in the Situation Room to make the final decision,’ Trump said in a lengthy social media post, according to AFP. Trump stressed that Iran must agree to never possess nuclear weapons and to open the Strait of Hormuz shipping lanes. Trump also asserted that Iran’s enriched uranium stockpiles ‘will be dug up by the United States… in coordination and close cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran, plus the International Atomic Energy Agency, and DESTROYED.’ Following reports that Iran had demanded financial compensation for the war and that the White House had proposed investment ideas, Trump said ‘no money will be exchanged, until further notice.’ Trump added that only ‘trivial matters’ had been agreed upon. Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Ministry stated there are no ongoing negotiations regarding its nuclear programme. Iran said it is currently focused on ending the war. ‘At this stage, we are focused on ending the war, and there are no negotiations regarding nuclear issues,’ said ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei to state TV. Esmaeil Baqaei added that there is still no ‘final agreement’ with the United States to end the Middle East conflict.
