U.S. sets antidumping duties
WASHINGTON (AFP): The U.S. Commerce Department on Tuesday announced proposed punitive duties for imports of carbon quality steel plate products from Japan, India, Indonesia, South Korea, Italy and France.
The duties will be applied if another U.S. agency, the International Trade Commission, issues a final determination that the U.S. steel industry has in fact been harmed by such imports. The ITC has 45 days to issue its findings.
The department published the duties that would be imposed on steel products deemed to have been unfairly subsidized by governments and on those that have entered the United States at "dumping" prices, that is, below fair-market value.
The range of proposed duties on subsidized steel plate is from 1.73 to 47.71 percent on companies in France, India, Indonesia, Italy and South Korea.
Anti-dumping duties -- or margins -- on steel companies from France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan and South Korea range from 2.98 to 72.49 percent.
