US Set to Seize Iranian Airspace, War Set to End in 4–6 Weeks
The United States government says it is on track to take control of Iran’s airspace. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt made the remark on Friday, 6 March, local time. She added that Washington estimates the objective can be reached within four to six weeks.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Leavitt also said Washington is considering potential candidates to lead Iran. She said this a day after President Donald Trump told Reuters in an interview that the United States should be involved in selecting Iran’s next leader.
“I know there are a number of people being considered by our intelligence agencies and the U.S. government, but I will not discuss further,” Leavitt said, as reported by Al Arabiya and Reuters, Saturday, 7 March 2026.
In an interview on 5 March, Trump said that in his view the next leader of Iran is unlikely to be the son of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has emerged as the leading candidate to succeed his father, who was killed in an early war attack by the US and Israel.
Earlier on 6 March, Trump said there would be no deal with Iran unless there is “unconditional surrender”.
“What the President means is that when he, as Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Armed Forces, determines that Iran no longer poses a threat to the United States, and the objectives of Operation Epic Fury have been fully achieved, Iran will essentially be in a position of unconditional surrender, whether they say so themselves or not,” Leavitt said.
