The United States government under the Donald Trump administration is intensifying pressure on Tehran. The latest move sees the US offering a reward of up to US$15 million (around Rp230 billion) to anyone providing information leading to the “disruption of financial mechanisms” of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

This step was announced by the State Department’s Rewards for Justice programme. The effort forms part of Washington’s broader strategy to strangle Iran’s economy and force the country to agree to a new deal.

The substantial reward is aimed at those with accurate information on IRGC revenue sources, including its elite Qods Force branch. The US is specifically seeking details on the main financial facilities that have enabled the group to operate.

Several crucial points targeted by the US for information include the IRGC’s financial operations and support networks.

Additionally, the US is working to uncover distribution routes for funds and materials sent by the IRGC to militia groups and proxy partners in various regions.

Prior to this reward announcement on Monday local time, the Trump administration had taken concrete action by imposing new sanctions on 12 individuals and entities. They are accused of actively facilitating the sale and shipment of Iranian oil to China for IRGC interests.

These aggressive measures demonstrate Washington’s commitment to closing all economic loopholes for Iran in the global market. By targeting funding and oil logistics networks, the US hopes to weaken the IRGC’s military strength and political influence, which is a key pillar of power in Tehran.
